My rates are the same for every
patient. All sessions are 50 minutes long.
-
$100/session for an
individual.
-
$150/session for couple or
family.
I often recommend a double,
two-hour session for our first meeting. This gives us time to get comfortable
with each other, start talking, get past the surface issues and get as close to
the core as possible. Momentum is extremely important, especially during that
first visit, and I don’t want you to be interrupted just when you’re telling me
about, or realizing, a key part of the issue that brought you to my office.
My colleagues with similar
qualifications charge $145 to $165 for an individual session and much more for a
couple or family session. I consciously chose to reduce my fees to their
current level because I have chosen not to accept insurance.
I made this decision because I want to focus on my clients
and not the insurance companies.
I am a great believer in
insurance, and I am truly grateful it exists. However, I just do not have the
time to explain to claims adjustors, who know little or nothing about mental
health, why a few sessions will not “cure” deep-seated issues.
Frankly, dealing with insurance
companies to get a couple of extra visits covered is just not worth the time and
aggravation. Therefore, I reduced my rates. You can file your own
receipts with the insurance company, and they will generally reimburse you for
50% of my fee as an out-of-network supplier.
In short, your out-of-pocket
cost is virtually identical to what it would be if I accepted insurance and
charged higher hourly rates. And your coverage will not run out after six
visits, so you won’t have a giant clock ticking over your head as you strive for
your breakthrough.
